BIO & CONTACT

Colin McGurk is a scenic designer and visual artist in New York City. He is motivated by a visionary approach to art and design, equally fascinated by both the golden ratio and Discordianism, bringing that artistic philosophy into his scenic work whenever possible. His fascination with shapes, scale, and geometry bring a resonant aesthetic perspective to his work, while also creating functional spaces for actors and directors to explore human stories.

Colin’s training melds practical theater design with a foundation in both fine art and engineering. He received his BA in Theatre from Lehigh University in 2006 and returned as a design apprentice in 2007. He received his MFA from UC San Diego. UC San Diego credits include Space Between, Joe Turner’s Come and Gone, The Seagull, and The House of Bernarda Alba.

Favorite projects include Macbeth with LA Opera and Heartbreak House at Hartford Stage, both with director Darko Tresnjak. He made his Off-Broadway design debut in 2015 with Application Pending at the West Side Theater. Other New York credits include Mother’s Day, Rio, Stilled, Iyom, Blood Privilege, Zelda At The Oasis, and an early workshop of what later became the Broadway musical Disaster!, with director Denis Jones. He has designed at the New London Barn Playhouse in New Hampshire, the Muhlenberg Summer Musical Theater in Pennsylvania and at the Shadowland Theatre in Ellenville, NY.

Colin is a founding partner of the design firm, Extra Dimensional Studios.
